ABB, a Swiss energy company, funded this new and exciting gallery focused on the Smart Grid, which includes an architectural addition to the museum’s existing building. The addition contains a new gallery that dramatically engages visitors from ages four to nine with hands-on interactives about the generation, distribution, and consumption of energy. A groundbreaking physical and mechanical interactive was developed to simulate the distribution of energy through a grid. The exhibits include Generation Station, Power Control Center, Home Sweet Home, and Electric Car. Visitors can learn how to conserve energy in their own homes, respond to outages, and plug in an electric car.
